The colleagues from the LIFE+ project “The Return of the Neophron” have recently reported the final results of the 2014 breeding season in Bulgaria and Greece – unfortunately the situation is still negative, with a decline of 16% between 2013 and 2014, in spite of the valiant conservation efforts being implemented through that project.
In 2014 a total of 32 Egyptian vulture pairs were identified in Bulgaria and in Greece – 23 in the former, 9 in the latter. In 2013 there were three more pairs in each country. The close monitoring in the two countries has also revealed a further 6 territories occupied by a single bird.
