Adonis was released in 2014 in the Massif Central in the Grands Causses as part of the reintroduction project there \u2013 now managed under the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/gypaetebarbu.fr\/life-gypconnect\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">LIFE GYPCONNECT project<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The travels of Adonis<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The male Bearded Vulture Adonis is one of the most famous and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/4vultures.org\/es\/2017\/12\/09\/bearded-vulture-adonis-the-great-traveler-is-back-in-the-grands-causses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">most travelled reintroduced Bearded Vultures<\/a>. In June 2015, he left the\u00a0Grands\u00a0Causses and flew across France and Belgium to north Germany (as far north as Hamburg), but then returned south and arrived back to the Swiss and French Alps. Then in 2016, he wandered again in a grand tour of eastern Europe &#8211; Slovakia, Poland, Belarus, Ukraine, and Romania. He stayed in Romania in the Carpathian Mountains for some time where he captivated the imagination of Romanian birdwatchers and conservationists, resulting in a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/4vultures.org\/es\/2016\/10\/18\/cheers-for-adonis-romanian-beer-company-makes-a-special-edition-named-after-the-long-staying-bearded-vulture\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">local beer company naming one of their limited edition brews after this distinguished bird<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; cheers to Adonis!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/4vultures.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/image-108.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13439\" width=\"336\" height=\"446\" srcset=\"https:\/\/4vultures.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/image-108.png 269w, https:\/\/4vultures.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/image-108-226x300.png 226w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 336px) 100vw, 336px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In September 2016, his tag stopped working in Romania, and we lost the trail of Adonis, until December 2016 when he was seen again in Vercors, and then photographed in the Baronnies. Now, his GPS tag restarted to work and is sending data now and then. Recently, he has been observed with company back in the Massif Central!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Adonis is paired and back home<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adonis seems to have settled down in the&nbsp;Grands Causses&nbsp;for a while now, but he is not alone. In fact, he is with another reintroduced Bearded Vulture &#8211; Layrou. For some time the pair consisting of two males have been brooding in a magnificent area located in the&nbsp;Gorges&nbsp;de la&nbsp;Jonte. Of course, conservationists are impatiently waiting for an adult or subadult female to join the pair to&nbsp;form a trio in the hope that they will be able to breed successfully in the future. They will continue to monitor Adonis for the time being &#8211; we wish them the best outcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/mailchi.mp\/09db0b150093\/vcf_newsletter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sign up to our newsletter<\/a>&nbsp;and never miss any vulture news!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>LIFE GypConnect<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"263\" height=\"202\" src=\"http:\/\/4vultures.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/image-1-140.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13440\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Led by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lpo.fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">League pour la Protection des Oiseaux (LPO)<\/a>, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/4vultures.org\/es\/life-projects\/gypconnect\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">LIFE GYPCONNECT<\/a>\u00a0project aims to establish a breeding population of Bearded Vultures in the Massif Central and Department of the Dr\u00f4me. Releasing captive-bred Bearded Vultures into the wild at sites such as the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gypaetebarbu.fr\/life-gypconnect-en\/life-gypconnect-action-sites\/article\/grands-causses\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Parc Naturel R\u00e9gional des Grands Causses<\/a>,\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gypaetebarbu.fr\/life-gypconnect-en\/life-gypconnect-action-sites\/article\/les-baronnies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Parc Naturel R\u00e9gional des Baronnies Proven\u00e7ales<\/a>\u00a0y\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.parc-du-vercors.fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Parc Naturel R\u00e9gional du Vercors<\/a>\u00a0will create a core population that will connect the two populations of the species in the Alps and Pyrenees.
