Her struggles, inability to fly and dehydration, are common among young birds and they are attributable to their inexperience. They are still learning to navigate their environment and therefore struggle to find food and shelter. &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-image uagb-block-75b1bacd wp-block-uagb-image--layout-default wp-block-uagb-image--effect-static wp-block-uagb-image--align-none\"><figure class=\"wp-block-uagb-image__figure\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/4vultures.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/image-1024x576.png\" alt=\"Veletas re-release in December 2024 \u00a9 Junta de Andaluc\u00eda\u00a0\" class=\"uag-image-39387\" width=\"715\" height=\"402\" title=\"image\" role=\"img\" \/><figcaption class=\"uagb-image-caption\">Veletas re-release in December 2024 \u00a9 Junta de Andaluc\u00eda\u00a0<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>After a few weeks of recovery and good care at Endangered Species Recovery Center (CREA) in Granada, CREA\u2019s specialized technicians confirmed that Veleta was fit and ready for flight. Her new release into the wild was planned for mid-December 2024. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Veleta has been successfully released as planned, and she has now been able to reunite with<a href=\"https:\/\/4vultures.org\/es\/blog\/celebrating-the-return-of-bearded-vultures-in-sierra-nevada\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Dilar and Sulayr &#8211; two other Bearded Vultures released in Sierra Nevada last summer.<\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The return of the Bearded Vulture&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Bearded Vulture <em>(<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/4vultures.org\/es\/vultures\/bearded-vulture\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Gypeatus Barbatus<\/em><\/a><em>)<\/em> disappeared from Andalusia in the 1980s due to a combination of human persecution, the use of poisons, and a reduction in food sources, leading to its near-extinction in the area.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since 2006, VCF together with <a href=\"https:\/\/juntadeandalucia.es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Junta de Andaluc\u00eda<\/a> has worked tirelessly to reverse this decline through captive breeding programs, feasibility studies, and controlled releases. To date, 90 Bearded Vultures have been successfully released in various natural parks across Andalusia, including the Natural Parks of the Sierras of Cazorla, Segura, and Las Villas, as well as in the Sierra de Castril.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Symbol of ecological health&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Bearded Vulture&#8217;s presence in Sierra Nevada holds significant symbolic and ecological value. As a key indicator of the overall health of this Protected Natural Area, the vulture\u2019s return demonstrates the restoration of a balanced and functioning ecosystem.
