After his release, he wasted no time exploring his surroundings. In just a few months, he visited Bulgaria, Romania (six visits \u2014 clearly a fan!), Moldova, Serbia, North Macedonia, Greece, Turkey, Ukraine, Hungary, Croatia, Austria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"577\" src=\"http:\/\/4vultures.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-3.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-40432\" srcset=\"https:\/\/4vultures.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-3.png 1024w, https:\/\/4vultures.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-3-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/4vultures.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-3-768x433.png 768w, https:\/\/4vultures.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/image-3-18x10.png 18w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">(c) Milvus Group<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Trouble in the Delta&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>On June 30, Dryan flew into Romania\u2019s beautiful Danube Delta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its wetlands, wildlife, and \u2014 as it turns out \u2014 incredibly tricky reedbeds. On July 1, a misjudged landing sent our globetrotter straight into a dense patch of reeds. Unfortunately, this natural fortress turned into a green prison from which Dryan couldn\u2019t escape on his own.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Delta&#8217;s reedbeds are nearly impenetrable, and their terrain isn&#8217;t exactly friendly to large scavenging birds \u2014 or rescuers, for that matter. Finally, on July 5, a determined group of veterinarians from Tulcea and two more searchers from Mila 23 launched a parallel search, and after three days in the reeds, Dryan was found\u2014dehydrated but alive\u2014and rushed to a veterinary clinic for care.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">It takes a flock&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Dryan is now safe and receiving expert veterinary care \u2014 and we\u2019re all hoping he\u2019ll be back to his sky-high adventures soon (perhaps with a little more caution around wetlands). The successful rescue was only possible because of the swift mobilisation and coordination of many individuals and institutions, each playing a vital role. With a budget of \u20ac5.17 million, co-funded by the European Union\u2019s LIFE Programme, the project commenced in August 2023 and is expected to continue until 2030. Building upon the achievements of its predecessor, \u201cVultures Back to Life,\u201d it is coordinated by Green Balkans, with five more partner organizations within Bulgaria, including the Fund for Wild Flora and Fauna, Foundation EkoObshtnost, EVN \u2013 Elektropradelenie Yug EAD, Severozapadno Darzhavno Predpriyatie \u2013 Vratsa, and \u201cSinite kamani\u201d Nature Park Directorate. Furthermore, the project benefits from international collaboration, including the Vulture Conservation Foundation (VCF), responsible for the translocation and safeguarding of captive-bred birds secured for release.
