Up in the mountain town of Cazorla in Andalucia for the next three days over 140 people who work with bearded vultures have gathered together to discuss their work conserving Europe\u2019s rarest vulture for our Annual Bearded Vulture Meeting.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Annual Bearded Vulture Meeting 2018<\/strong><\/p>\n

The programme brings the\u00a0bearded vulture community together each year to discuss and share our work. Over the two days of presentations we’ll hear from the pioneering work tackling threats such as illegal wildlife poisoning and making electricity infrastructure safe, the latest updates from the captive-breeding stock of birds in the specialised breeding centres and the results of monitoring of the wild population across Europe. The final day of the Annual Meeting delegates\u00a0will head out on field trips to the\u00a0Guadalent\u00edn Breeding Centre, see a demonstration of an anti-poison dog unit and visit the breeding territory of breeding pairTono and Blimunda.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Bearded vultures in\u00a0Andaluc\u00eda<\/strong><\/p>\n

Marchena, released in 2012 offspring of captive breeding pair Blurry and Toba, is the mother of two wild-born bearded vultures born in 2017 and 2018<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The bearded vulture reintroduction programme in Andaluc\u00eda\u00a0(Sierras de Cazorla, Segura, Castril and Las Villas), led by the Junta de Andaluc\u00eda, in collaboration with Fondaci\u00f3n Gypaetus and the Vulture Conservation Foundation, started back in 1996, with the first birds being released in 2006 following their extinction in the area in the 1980\u2019s. In 2018 four birds were released into the wild from specialised breeding centres\u00a0Guadalent\u00edn (Centro de Cr\u00eda de Quebrantahuesos)\u00a0in Andaluc\u00eda,\u00a0Guadalent\u00edn (Centro de Cr\u00eda de Quebrantahuesos),\u00a0Richard Faust Zentrum Breeding Centre in\u00a0Austria and Green Balkans in Bulgaria.<\/p>\n
