{"id":6942,"date":"2013-07-07T11:53:54","date_gmt":"2013-07-07T10:53:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4vultures.org\/blog\/two-new-residents-in-the-vercors\/"},"modified":"2013-07-07T11:53:54","modified_gmt":"2013-07-07T10:53:54","slug":"two-new-residents-in-the-vercors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/4vultures.org\/es\/blog\/two-new-residents-in-the-vercors\/","title":{"rendered":"Two new residents in the Vercors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">Two young bearded vultures, one born in the Sch\u00f6nbrunn Zoo in Vienna, the other in Helsinki, were last month released into the Parc Naturel R\u00e9gional du Vercors, as<\/span>\u00a0<span lang=\"EN\" xml:lang=\"EN\">part of the international alpine bearded vulture reintroduction project, in which the Vulture Conservation Foundation plays an important part.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\" xml:lang=\"EN\">Bearded vultures<\/span>\u00a0<span lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">went extinct in the Alpine chain in the beginning of the 20th century. Towards the end of the same century, it was deemed that the threats that had driven it to extinction (direct persecution, poison and lack of food) had been minimized, so an ambitious reintroduction project started in 1986, using birds from the more than 30 Zoos and captive breeding centers coordinated by the VCF under the Bearded Vulture endangered species programme (EEP).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">Since then, the Vulture Conservation Foundation and all its partners in 4 countries (Austria, Switzerland, Italy and France) have released more than 185 birds across the Alps \u2013 and as a consequence, there are now more than 20 breeding pairs, and 30 territories, dispersed across the chain.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">You can see a film about the release of these two young bearded vultures\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/vercorstv.wmaker.tv\/Deux-nouveaux-residents-en-Diois_v657.html\">here<\/a><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN\" xml:lang=\"EN\">The VCF would like to thank<\/span>\u00a0<span lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">PNR du Vercors for all their work and contribution to this project.<\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two young bearded vultures, one born in the Sch\u00f6nbrunn Zoo in Vienna, the other in Helsinki, were last month released into the Parc Naturel R\u00e9gional du Vercors, as\u00a0part of the international alpine bearded vulture reintroduction project, in which the Vulture Conservation Foundation plays an important part.
