Vultures often get a bad reputation and are perceived as lowly scavengers, but they play a crucial role in the environments in which they live. Known as \u2018nature\u2019s clean-up crew\u2019, these scavengers do the dirty work of cleaning up after death, helping to keep ecosystems healthy and providing significant socioeconomic value to local communities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

CAPTIVE BREEDING<\/a><\/h4>

We own most of the Bearded Vultures in captivity in the world and collaborate with over 40 zoos and breeding centres to coordinate the captive breeding of Bearded Vultures in Europe. The bone-eating Bearded Vulture is the rarest vulture in Europe. Europe's total population (including Turkey and the Caucasus) is estimated at 600 to 1000 pairs.<\/div>

One of the world's largest raptors, the Cinereous Vulture is making a comeback in Europe. The population in Spain, Portugal, and France is on the rise and it is being reintroduced in Bulgaria.<\/div>

The migratory Egyptian Vulture is unfortunately considered Endangered at a global level. It has lost half of its population in the last three generations, but conservation initiatives are fighting to protect it, and some populations in Europe are now stabilised.<\/div>

The most social of Europe's vultures, the Griffon Vulture is making an extraordinary comeback in Europe following its decline in the 20th century, with its breeding population exceeding 35,000 pairs, including +30,000 pairs in Spain alone.<\/div>
