Nearly half of the country is covered by natural and semi-natural landscapes, including some of the continent\u2019s last remaining undisturbed forests. It is also home to one-third of the European brown bear population, highlighting the country\u2019s significance in European biodiversity conservation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Creating a safe ground for vulture reintroduction projects<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Implementing the Wildlife Crime project in Romania is also a crucial step toward future vulture recovery projects. Vultures remain highly vulnerable to illegal poisoning, poaching, and habitat loss, which are often driven by weak enforcement and unregulated activities. By strengthening wildlife crime investigations and enforcement, we can protect existing biodiversity and lay the necessary groundwork for successful vulture reintroduction in the years to come.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Next steps<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Following this meeting, the focus will be on practical implementation. Training sessions will be conducted for field officers and legal experts, ensuring that the new protocols are effectively enforced. Additionally, Romania\u2019s national roadmap for combating wildlife crime will be refined and integrated with broader European conservation efforts.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By addressing wildlife crime through structured training and legal frameworks, Romania is setting an example for other countries.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Big thank you to Marisanda P\u00eer\u00eeianu and the Romanian Ministry of Environment, Water, and Forests for the collaboration and your commitment to stop wildlife crime.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/4vultures.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/image-1-1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-39925\" style=\"width:652px;height:auto\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>WildLIFE Crime Academy<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-image aligncenter uagb-block-bf57bc88 wp-block-uagb-image--layout-default wp-block-uagb-image--effect-static wp-block-uagb-image--align-center\"><figure class=\"wp-block-uagb-image__figure\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/4vultures.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/WCA-BANNER-1024x576.png\" alt=\"WCA wildlife crime academy logo\" class=\"uag-image-16729\" width=\"587\" height=\"330\" title=\"WCA BANNER\" role=\"img\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Funded by the EU\u2019s LIFE Programme, the Vulture Conservation Foundation, and key international partners, the WildLIFE Crime Academy is a five-year initiative aimed at strengthening law enforcement, enhancing international cooperation, and building capacity to combat wildlife crime in Portugal, Slovenia, Romania, Montenegro, Morrocco, Tunisia, Egypt, North Cyprus and Georgia.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Project partners are the Vulture Conservation Foundation as the coordinating beneficiary, and the Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests (MMEDIU), DOPPS BirdLife Slovenia, Centar za za\u0161titu i prou\u010davanje ptica (CZIP), and Taskent Doga Parki (Taskent Nature Park) TNP as associated beneficiaries.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through a series of specialized training programmes, knowledge-exchange workshops, and collaborative efforts with governmental authorities, NGOs, and forensic experts, the project seeks to improve investigation and prosecution processes for wildlife crime.
