Ventalon hatched two days earlier, on 11 March, at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.puydufou.com\/france\/en\/must-see-france\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Puy du Fou <\/a>in France. Both birds were raised within the<a href=\"https:\/\/4vultures.org\/pt\/our-work\/captive-breeding\/bearded-vulture-eep\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> European captive-breeding network for the Bearded Vulture (Bearded Vulture EEP)<\/a>, coordinated by the Vulture Conservation Foundation (VCF), which provides young birds for conservation projects across Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Staff from Pairi Daiza and Puy du Fou accompanied the birds on their journey to southern France, helping ensure a smooth transfer to their new home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once at Roc du Salidou, Ventus and Ventalon were carefully placed on the rocky ledge that would serve as their temporary nest. The first releases took place in the Grands Causses in 2012, and the recent opening of the C\u00e9vennes site has expanded those efforts to a new part of the landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The goal is not only to<a href=\"https:\/\/4vultures.org\/pt\/our-work\/reintroduction-and-restocking\/bearded-vulture-to-massif-central-pre-alps\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> reintroduce the species in the area<\/a>, but also to strengthen the links between the Bearded Vulture populations of the Alps and the Pyrenees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The next few weeks<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For now, the focus remains on Ventus and Ventalon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the coming weeks, the two birds will stay on the release site, where food is provided without direct human contact. Until they are ready for their first flights, which will take a few weeks&#8217; time, they will get acclimatised to their new home and surrounding environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Field teams will follow their progress closely, tracking their movements and behaviour as they take their first steps towards independence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Their story is only just beginning, and we look forward to seeing where their journeys take them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Restoring the Bearded Vulture Alpine and Pyrenean populations&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To<a href=\"https:\/\/4vultures.org\/pt\/blog\/life-gypact-project-restoring-the-bearded-vulture-metapopulation-between-the-alps-and-the-pyrenees\/\">&nbsp;restore the Bearded Vulture metapopulation between the Alps and the Pyrenees<\/a>, the LIFE Gyp\u2019Act project plans to release 60 captive-bred juveniles in different locations across Southern France and the Pre-Alps. The LIFE Gyp\u2019Act builds on the legacy of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/4vultures.org\/pt\/projects\/life-gypconnect\/\">LIFE GypConnect<\/a>&nbsp;and ensures the continuity of the conservation measures implemented so that Bearded Vultures continue to flourish.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh7-rt.googleusercontent.com\/docsz\/AD_4nXdTTBf2H1AMfWPmk8jMHDDsHr3u1vdP0LqIwaqIgSCHiYeXfi9-J7Ot0tVgK9R0uXBDUiuyoCzqWUqhAgYhN_h-glWdnSQxRUp5Ng_gqN4w88gQmRbGHQoICHCrSY5Ez8n2sYmMXg?key=LVpo1NbysAE2EkD5_UB4xg\" alt=\"LIFE GypACT Gyp\u2019Act logo\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gypact.fr\/life\/\">LIFE Gyp\u2019Act<\/a>&nbsp;is a 13M\u20ac project, co-funded by the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/easme\/en\/life\">EU\u2019s LIFE programme,<\/a>&nbsp;that will run until 30 November 2028.
