We have recently informed about the shooting of the last black vulture in Alyni\u00e0<\/a>, one of the two black vulture reintroduction sites in the Spanish Pyrenees, and how the sites contrasted \u2013 while the species did not get a foothold in the former site, in Boumort (Lleida) it was flourishing, ten years after the start of reintroduction project.<\/p>\n

Well, now the news came that on Boumort there were this year at least 14 pairs of black vultures, three more than last year, of which 11 started to breed. Currently 8 of them are still incubating, and chicks are now hatching. Last year 5 black vultures fledged successfully.<\/p>\n

The reintroduction project of the Black Vulture in the Pyrenees is promoted by the Departament d\u2019Agricultura, Ramaderia, Pesca, Alimentaci\u00f3 i Medi Natural de la Generalitat de Catalunya. GREFA and Trenca are involved in the implementation of the Project, together with the staff of the National Hunting Reserve of Boumort. The project is funded by the Obra Social \u201cLa Caixa\u201d and REE.
