Recently, three young captive-bred Egyptian vultures were put in an artificial nest in the Natural Park “Rusenski Lom”, within the auspices of the LIFE+ project “The Return of the Neophron”<\/a>, in a collaboration between Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB, BirdLife in Bulgaria), the VCF, Rusenski Lom Natural Park, the Egyptian vulture EEP\u00a0and Green Balkans.<\/p>\n

Sylvia Dyulgerova, the BSPB staffer who is taking care for the young vultures, sent us this report from the field: “Elodie is the boldest of the three vultures. Usually she is the first bird that dares to taste the food.\u00a0 Lom is a big fan of her and often tries to remove her transmitter as a sign of a friendship – once he even pull it so hard that he lifted her while she was lying! After the second day, the three vultures got used to their transmitters. Although Regina is the eldest of the three birds, in the first three days she preferred to beg Elodie and Lom for food. Now she eats by herself. Lom is the sportiest of the three and often trains his wings. A few days ago I saw him pulling the net which covers the nesting niche \u2013 like he already wants to take off.\u201d<\/p>\n
