{"id":6341,"date":"2016-04-06T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-04-06T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4vultures.org\/blog\/the-little-altore-has-been-successfully-adopted\/"},"modified":"2016-04-06T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2016-04-06T00:00:00","slug":"the-little-altore-has-been-successfully-adopted","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/4vultures.org\/pt\/blog\/the-little-altore-has-been-successfully-adopted\/","title":{"rendered":"The little Altore has been successfully adopted!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/4vultures.org\/pt\/2016\/04\/02\/one-altore-across-europe-or-how-a-corsican-bearded-vultures-chick-flew-across-the-continent-to-be-adopted-by-a-captive-pair\/\">Following a gruelling trip from Corsica to Andalusia<\/a>, the young bearded vulture &#8211; or altore in Corsican &#8211; has been successfully adopted last weekend by a pair of conspecifics in the Guadalent\u00edn bearded vulture captive breeding unit, managed by the Junta de Andaluc\u00eda and the Fundaci\u00f3n Gypaetus.<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/4vultures.org\/pt\/2016\/03\/25\/our-own-easter-egg-has-hatched-corsican-bearded-vulture-chick-hatches-in-the-lab-a-first-in-the-world\/\">The chick had hatched on the 18th of March<\/a> from an egg taken from a nest in the Asco valley, laid by a wild pair that had not bred successfully for the last 10 years \u2013 an operation included in an emergency action plan to save this highly threatened island subpopulation, now numbering only 3 or 4 pairs.<\/p>\n<p> The young altore was adopted by a foster female in Guadalent\u00edn that was rearing a chick more or less of the same age \u2013 prior to the adoption, this chick was removed and given to a foster pair which is now rearing two chicks.<\/p>\n<p> The young altore will be kept in the bearded vulture captive breeding network \u2013 managed by the VCF &#8211;\u00a0 to establish a Corsican genetic reserve, but later this year two young will be released in Corsica to boost numbers.<\/p>\n<p> Captive-bred bearded vultures used in reintroduction projects should be raised naturally by adult breeding pairs, so hand-raising is avoided.<\/p>\n<p> This is the first time ever that this operation and method is tried with a Corsican wild egg and hatching.<\/p>\n<p> The emergency action plan to save the Corsican bearded vultures is being implemented in partnership with the Parc Naturel Regional de Corse, and is partly funded by the Fondation Prince Albert II de Monaco and the Fondaci\u00f3 Barcelona Zoo.<\/p>\n<p> Photos: Fundaci\u00f3n Gypaetus<\/p>\n<div id='gallery-2' class='gallery galleryid-6341 gallery-columns-3 gallery-size-large'><figure class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<div class='gallery-icon landscape'>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='https:\/\/4vultures.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Tono-and-Blimunda-928x696-1.jpg'><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"928\" height=\"696\" src=\"https:\/\/4vultures.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Tono-and-Blimunda-928x696-1.jpg\" class=\"attachment-large size-large\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/4vultures.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Tono-and-Blimunda-928x696-1.jpg 928w, https:\/\/4vultures.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Tono-and-Blimunda-928x696-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/4vultures.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Tono-and-Blimunda-928x696-1-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 928px) 100vw, 928px\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/div><\/figure>\n\t\t<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Following a gruelling trip from Corsica to Andalusia, the young bearded vulture &#8211; or altore in Corsican &#8211; has been successfully adopted last weekend by a pair of conspecifics in the Guadalent\u00edn bearded vulture captive breeding unit, managed by the Junta de Andaluc\u00eda and the Fundaci\u00f3n Gypaetus.
