This cycling race \u2013 the 4th most popular in the world \u2013 is known for its gruelling mountain stages in the Alps. Maybe this year the cyclists may spot the odd bearded vulture (see race poster) \u2013 the VCF and its partners have certainly been working hard to restore the population of this species in the Alps , following extinction in 1913. Now there are 33 pairs across the alpine chain, of which 10 in France.<\/p>\n

Cyclists can also see a bearded vulture just after crossing today\u00b4s finishing line in Villars les Dombes \u2013 the 2nd stage of the race finishes right in front of Parc des Oiseaux, the newest partner in our bearded vulture captive breeding network. Parc des Oiseaux has built a brand new aviary, and will receive soon a bearded vulture pair, and thus will contribute and participate in our programme.
