In Albania local legends says that cuckoo ride on the back of Egyptian vulture to arrive in Europe and bring the spring, from where the local name – “Cuckoo’s horse”. What would happen if Egyptian vultures disappear?
With no more than 10 pairs, Albania is one of the last shelters of the species in the Balkans. To celebrate this endangered species, Albanian and Bulgarian conservationists decided to team up with artists from 140Ideas to make a mural in Vlora – the coastal touristic center of Albania.
The initiative was implemented in the frame of the CEPF project “Land of Eagles and Castles” implemented by the Association for Protection and Preservation of Natural Environment in Albania (PPNEA) and the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB) / BirdLife Bulgaria. After the murals in Haskovo and Madzharovo (Bulgaria), this is the third mural with Egyptian vultures produced through the effective collaboration of BSPB and 140 Ideas.
