João Guilherme is a Portuguese Conservation Biologist with a keen interest in birds, their behaviour, grand migrations, and their relationship with people. He studied Conservation Biology in the University of Lisbon. He got his PhD from the University of Montpellier (in France, where he is now based), having mapped areas of importance for the conservation of migratory landbirds, raptors and storks along the African-Eurasian flyway.
He has extensive experience in ornithology, developed since his teens and honed through volunteering and professional experience in a diverse portfolio of applied research and conservation projects in Europe, Africa and Central Asia.
João is motivated by the urgency of finding effective solutions for a positive change toward the conservation our natural heritage. As Research Officer at the VCF, he hopes his work will help raise public awareness and inform effective vulture conservation in Europe and beyond.
