We are thrilled to announce a unique opportunity for filmmakers to be part of an impactful conservation project – the LIFE Aegypius Return project. This ambitious project, co-financed by the European Union’s LIFE Programme, aims to expand and consolidate the Cinereous Vulture population in Portugal and Western Spain. About LIFE Aegypius Return project

The LIFE Aegypius Return project, initiated in 2022, is a comprehensive endeavour focused on bolstering the Cinereous Vulture population. Led by the Vulture Conservation Foundation (VCF) in collaboration with local partners, the project encompasses actions ranging from habitat improvement and breeding colony establishment to mitigating threats like lead exposure and nest disturbance. The goal is to double the breeding population in Portugal, increase breeding success, and establish new colonies, thereby securing the future of the species.

Calling wildlife filmmakers: Tell the Cinereous Vulture’s story

We invite filmmakers to submit their proposals for the opportunity to be selected to produce a documentary spotlighting the crucial conservation efforts of the LIFE Aegypius Return project. The selected filmmaker will craft a narrative that unfolds the historical context of Cinereous Vulture conservation in Portugal, emphasizing milestones, ecological significance, and the urgency to conserve the species. Around Portugal and Western Spain, the filmmaker will need to capture various scenes, including landscapes showcasing habitat and wildlife and the behaviour of Cinereous Vultures in different settings and the project’s actions. The documentary will showcase results, and achievements, providing a visually stunning and emotionally resonant experience.

Please note that the filmmaker will be required to film specific project actions on an ongoing basis from 2024 to 2026, primarily in Portugal and, if possible, in Western Spain.

How to apply

To submit proposals, filmmakers need to outline their budget, approach to storytelling, and showcase their previous work, especially in conservation or wildlife.

Interested filmmakers are encouraged to submit their proposals by 10 March 2024, through the online submission form.

For more details, please refer to the Tender for Filmmaker document.

We look forward to receiving your submissions!
