The VCF coordinates and/or oversees most of the bearded vulture reintroduction projects in Europe, and we manage the bearded vulture captive-breeding network, which is at the base of such reintroductions. One of our LIFE projects (LIFE GYPCONNECT) is precisely focussed on one of those reintroduction sites and projects.

For many years we have been organising an annual bearded vulture meeting, where most of the people working with the species gather to discuss common issues, share best practice and help progress an European conservation strategy for the bearded vulture – see below the conclusions from last year’s meeting, which was held in Austria.

This year the annual bearded vulture meeting is co-organised and hosted by our partners ASTERS (Conservatoire d´Espaces Naturels d´Haute-Savoie), in the framework of the LIFE project GYPHELP, and will take place in Haute-Savoie, in the French Alps, to celebrate the 20 years of the first breeding in the wild in the Alps after reintroduction (1997, in Haute-Savoie), 11 years after the first reintroduction (1986 – this species usually breeds for the first time when 10 years old).

These meetings are very rich and interesting, and they gather all the best world experts on this species. Discussions are very relevant for all vulture conservationists Europewide. The meeting will be held in English.

You can find some information below (in French). You can find all the detailed information about accommodation, how to get there etc. on our website at https://www.4vultures.org/annual-meetings/annual-bearded-vulture-meeting-2017/

The detailed program will be added very soon. Please note that the registration is open until mid-October. We do hope to see you in Passy!
