An annual update on the results of all the monitoring and research done by the network Casseur d´Os on bearded vultures in the French Pyrenees has recently been published by the LPO (Ligue pour la Protection des Oiseaux).
This year there were 43 pairs of bearded vultures in the French side of the Pyrenees (including three new pairs, two in the western part, and one in the eastern part), of which 32 laid eggs. 20 young hatched, but only 11 fledged. This results in a productivity of 0,26, rather low.
The evolution of the population in the French Pyrenees is still rather positive, from 17 pairs in 1994 to the 42 currently counted. On the Spanish side there are 135+ pairs.
