To celebrate the 2014 International Vulture Awareness Day, Asters (Conservatoire des Espaces Naturels de Haute-Savoie, France), the Vulture Conservation Foundation, ERDF, Ligue pour la Protection des Oiseaux de Haute-Savoie (LPO) and their partners are organising on Saturday 6th September 2014 an open day to discover the bearded vulture and its conservation. The bearded vulture is a mythical bird of the Alps and one of the Alps’ most threatened species.
Come and discover the bearded vulture through silhouette observation or bone-breaking workshops, rallyes, exhibitions…Free entrance from 10am to 6pm at the “Espace Allobroges” in Cluses, Haute-Savoie, France.
The day will then end with the screening at 8pm of the movie “bearded vultures and men” (produced by Mathieu le Lay) and follow-up discussions with bearded vultures experts from Asters.
This event will also mark the official launch of the bearded vulture conservation project “LIFE GypHelp”, which is cofunded by the European Commission through the LIFE programme. This project aims at conserving the core population of bearded vultures in the French Alps by reducing anthropogenic threats such as collision with aerial cables, poisoning and intoxication, and disturbance of the nesting sites.
